Koh Mook, despite its small size, offers a plethora of exciting activities that can keep visitors entertained for several days. This island has become one of our preferred destinations in Thailand.
Here is our comprehensive list of things to do in Koh Mook, Thailand in 2023.
Discover the Morakot Cave
Also known as the Emerald Cave, which is the most prominent attraction on Koh Mook.
This stunning cave is only accessible by boat, and visitors must swim through a narrow chamber at the bottom of a towering cliff to reach it. Upon entering the cave, visitors are greeted with a breathtaking view of a lagoon at the bottom of a vast sinkhole, complete with a picturesque sandy beach.
The Emerald Cave is a truly spectacular sight that seems like it is straight out of a movie. However, due to its immense popularity, the charm of the Emerald Cave can be lost when it is crowded with hundreds of tourists.
To avoid the crowds, we recommend renting a longtail boat from Koh Mook and visiting the cave at sunrise before the tour groups arrive. It is important to note that access to the Emerald Cave is only possible during low tide and calm seas due to the risk of hitting rocks and the cave’s roof.
Embark on a Boat Tour to Koh Kradan
While Koh Mook boasts of its breathtaking beauty, there are several other magnificent islands in close proximity that are worth exploring. It would be a missed opportunity to not take advantage of a longtail boat and visit these islands.
Koh Kradan, located within an hour’s distance from Koh Mook, is one of the most stunning islands. It is renowned for its immaculate white sand and swaying palm trees.
A few hours can easily be spent exploring Koh Kradan, walking along its beaches, taking a dip in the sea, and indulging in a refreshing coconut or cold beer from a local vendor.
Although it is possible to stay on Koh Kradan, the island lacks adequate infrastructure, and visitors must be comfortable with limited options for accommodation and dining.
We recommend using Koh Mook as a base and renting a private tour to Koh Kradan, which could also include visits to Emerald Cave and Koh Ngai.
Experience the charm of Koh Mook by renting a bicycle and embarking on a leisurely exploration of its tranquil streets.
The island’s serene atmosphere makes it an ideal destination for cycling enthusiasts seeking to discover its many picturesque spots.
With a bike, you can easily traverse the island and take in its breathtaking scenery in just a few hours. It’s a delightful way to discover why Koh Mook is one of Thailand’s most beloved islands. Safety is not a concern, as the island’s streets are peaceful and secure.
The only potential obstacles to watch out for are stray dogs and chickens. If you prefer to ride a scooter, you can rent one in town for 250THB per day.
However, it’s essential to wear a helmet for your safety. Koh Mook is home to many fascinating and unique attractions, and exploring them on two wheels is an unforgettable experience. So, rent a bicycle and discover the island’s hidden gems at your own pace.
Relax on the Beach
Finally, on our itinerary of activities to partake in Koh Mook, we recommend indulging in the simple pleasure of unwinding on the beach.
After all, you have journeyed a considerable distance to bask in the splendor of this Thai haven, and it is only fitting that you take a moment to recline with a refreshing beverage and unwind. While there are numerous locations to relax, Sivalai Beach boasts the purest, most immaculate sand. The southern section, in particular, is ideal for swimming, rendering it one of the most picturesque destinations to explore in Koh Mook.
